Totally Disabled or Total Disability definition

Totally Disabled or Total Disability means that an individual is prevented, because of injury, illness or other physical condition, from performing all of his or her normal activities (those of a person of like age and sex in good health prior to the occurrence of the disability), including, but not limited to, the ability to engage in any work or other gainful activity for which he or she is, or couldreasonably become, fitted by reason of education, training or experience. A person who is able to work, attend school, or perform household activities on a part-time basis is not totally disabled. Determinations regarding the existence of total disability shall be made on the basis of medical examination of the person claiming such disability, in accordance with the provisions of the Agreement.
Totally Disabled or Total Disability means the disability of a Member, provided that a medical doctor licensed in Canada certifies in writing that the Member is suffering from a physical or mental impairment that can reasonably be expected to last for the remainder of the Member’s lifetime and that prevents such Member from engaging in any gainful occupation. In circumstances to be determined by the Administrator, the Administrator may accept the opinion of a medical doctor licensed outside of Canada.
