Temporary Assignments definition

Temporary Assignments. Temporary upgrades shall take place within the unit in which the temporary vacancy exists provided there is a next lower classification to the vacant classification in such unit. Temporary upgrades into classifications where there is no next lower classification to the vacancy within the unit shall be made from the section, and then the department. A Section may be comprised of more than one unit. For example, in the Payroll and Accounts Payable Sections, a unit is comprised of all of the employees reporting to one exempt supervisor.
Temporary Assignments. Temporary assignments to positions resulting from extended leaves of absence such as maternity leave, long term illness, Workers’ Compensation or any other leave of absence granted under this Agreement where the duration of the leave is known to be longer than three (3) months, shall not be restricted to three (3) months but shall be for the duration of the leave granted. Such periods of time may be extended by mutual consent of the Parties.
Temporary Assignments. A "temporary assignment" contemplates the fulfilment of the duties and responsibilities of the position during the time occupied whether the regular occupant of the position is absent or whether the temporary assignee does the work, regardless of the presence of the regular employee. Assisting a higher-rated employee due to a temporary increase in the volume of work does not constitute a temporary assignment.
