Surface casing definition

Surface casing means the first string of well casing to be installed in the well.
Surface casing means the first casing string designed and run to protect the treatable water formations and/or control fluid or gas flow from the well.
Surface casing means a string of casing set and cemented to isolate and protect the deepest underground source of drinking water and to serve as a base for well control equipment.

Examples of Surface casing in a sentence

  • Surface casing shall be tested before drilling the plug by applying a minimum pump pressure as set forth in Table 1 after at least 200 feet of the mud-laden fluid has been displaced with water at the top of the column.

  • Surface casing and long string casing strings shall be centralized by means of a sufficient number of centralizers spaced in a manner as to provide proper centralization of the casing string in the borehole prior to cementing.

  • Surface casing shall be tested at a surface pressure not less than the test pressure required in §109.B (or successor regulations).

  • Surface casing open hole injection may be approved provided the surface casing is set and cemented at least 200 feet below the lowermost USDW and a cement plug of at least 100 feet has been placed across the uppermost potential hydrocarbon bearing zone.AUTHORITY NOTE: Promulgated in accordance with R.S. 30:4 et seq.HISTORICAL NOTE: Promulgated by the Department of Natural Resources, Office of Conservation, LR 26:2805 (December 2000).

  • Surface casing shall be centralized at the shoe, above and below a stage collar or diverting tool, if run, and through usable-quality water zones.

More Definitions of Surface casing

Surface casing means a large diameter casing string set in shallow, yet competent, formations used to protect groundwaters, provide sufficient structural integrity to bear the weight of subsequent casing strings, and pressure integrity to contain the pressures anticipated to the next casing point.
Surface casing means the casing string or strings used primarily for protecting fresh water or mineralized water resources from potential contamination during the drilling and operation of an oil or gas well, or both.
Surface casing means casing to cover unconsolidated formations, to provide protection against shallow gas flow, seal off water bearing formations, protect fresh water sands from contamination, case-off lost circulations zones and to provide structural support for the well head.
Surface casing. (water protection string) means pipe designed to protect the freshwater sands.
Surface casing means a steel or steel alloy string of pipe set and cemented in the well to a depth sufficient to isolate and seal off all zones containing protected water, and which supports the installation of well control equipment that can be fully shut in and otherwise maintain pressure control of the well while drilling to a deeper depth.
Surface casing means a pipe or tube used as a lin- ing in a well to isolate the fresh water zone from the well.
