Service Code definition

Service Code shall have the meaning ascribed to it in Schedule 8; "Service Group" shall have the meaning ascribed to it in Schedule 8; "Train" shall have the meaning ascribed to it in Schedule 8; "Train–Bus–Train Pattern" means a situation where:

Service Code means the specific code used by Medical Practitioners in charging for each of their services and recognised by medical schemes in capturing and processing claims for payment. A Procedure may have one or multiple Service Codes, each of which relates to a specific sub-Procedure of the primary Procedure. When processing a claim, medical schemes will apply their Medical Scheme Tariff (MST) to each of these Service Codes individually – more often than not, the charge applied by the Medical Practitioner to a Service Code will be higher than the Medical Scheme Tariff applied by your medical scheme to the same Service Code, resulting in a shortfall.
