Second language definition

Second language means the language of instruction for children with a minority background, if it is different from their first language/mother tongue. It means the language of instruction in the case of children with a migrant background. In multilingual countries, it means the language of instruction when it is different from the children’s first language/mother tongue.
Second language means the other official language;
Second language means a language learned by students in addition to the first, which results in students learning two different languages at the same time.

Second language means the second official-language, either English or French, as the case may be. In the context of Ontario, minority language refers to French, and second language refers to French.
