Research Faculty definition

Research Faculty or “Tenure Track Faculty” means Instructors, Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, and Professors.
Research Faculty means Unit A faculty hired as experienced, independent researchers who have qualifications comparable to those expected of tenurable ranks, but are not tenure track. The appointee is expected to make significant contributions to the research field. He/she is eligible for rank and promotion in titles such as Term Professor, Assistant Research Professor, Associate Research Professor, and Research Professor. He/she is hired and/or appointed on a nontenurable basis based upon available grant funding.
Research Faculty means a faculty member who has a full-time faculty appointment and who is compensated for conducting research with a research effort greater than 25%.

Examples of Research Faculty in a sentence

  • Termination is the only option available for a decision “not to reinstate.” Research Faculty will receive a termination time equal to their rank days as defined under bridge funding.

  • It is the responsibility of that chair to direct the committee members to consider and apply the relevant sections in the Teaching and Research Faculty Handbook and the departmental statement on research evaluation in their comments and votes.

  • A Research Faculty member may be employed without limit, subject to the availability of outside funding to support the appointment.

  • However, Research Faculty who held tenure prior to January 1, 2007, shall retain their tenure status.

  • Research Faculty members must hold graduate degrees in appropriate disciplines.

  • For those Research Faculty with tenure-track appointments, the criteria for progression through the ranks are the same as those for regular tenure-track faculty, except that a greater emphasis will be placed on Research and any expectations for Teaching will depend on the specific requirements of their appointments.

  • Effective January 1, 2007, Research Faculty appointments became non-tenure track.

  • Departments desiring to appoint Research Faculty shall develop appropriate appointment, promotion and performance review criteria for each rank, which must be approved by the Dean of the College and the Provost.

  • Full-time faculty members holding the following academic ranks are eligible to be considered for tenure after a suitable probationary period, and time at Old Dominion University in these ranks is counted toward the probationary period unless procedures for reduction in the probationary period are followed (see Policy on Initial Appointment of Teaching and Research Faculty).

  • Research Faculty who held tenure prior to January 1, 2007, retained their tenure status.

  • Researcher means a person appointed by us to carry out research into theoperation of this Contract;

  • Research means a methodical investigation into a subject.

  • Collaboration has the meaning set forth in Section 2.1.

  • Commercialization or “Commercialize” means activities directed to marketing, promoting, research and development as required, manufacturing for sale, offering for sale, distributing, importing or selling a product, including sub-licensing or sub-contracting of these activities.

  • Research facility means buildings and structures, including machinery and equipment, used or to be used primarily for research or experimentation to improve or develop new tangible goods or materials or to improve or develop the production processes thereto.
