Private Duty Nursing Services definition

Private Duty Nursing Services means nursing services provided within the scope of license by a registered nurse or a licensed practical nurse under the general direction of the patient's physician to an individual who is not in a health care facility.
Private Duty Nursing Services means nursing services provided to a member or eligible person who requires more individual and continuous care than is available from a visiting nurse, or routinely provided by the nursing staff of a nursing facility or ICF-MR, and that are provided by a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse.
Private Duty Nursing Services or "PDN" means skilled in-home nursing services listed in the POC that are (i) not otherwise covered under the State Plan for Medical Assistance home health benefit; (ii) required to prevent institutionalization; (iii) provided within the scope of the Commonwealth's Nurse Practice Act and Drug Control Act (Chapters 30 (§ 54.1-3000 et seq.) and 34 (§ 54.1-3400 et seq.) of Title 54.1 of the Code of Virginia, respectively.
