Preferred Drug List definition

Preferred Drug List means the list of Brand Name Drugs and Generic Drugs issued by CareFirst BlueChoice and used by health care providers when writing, and Pharmacists, when filling, prescriptions. All Generic Drugs are included in the Preferred Drug List. Not all Brand Name Drugs are included in the Preferred Drug List. CareFirst BlueChoice may change this list periodically without notice to Members. A copy of the Preferred Drug List is available to the Member upon request.

Preferred Drug List and “PDL” each means a list:
Preferred Drug List or "PDL" means the list of drugs that meet the safety, clinical efficacy, and pricing standards employed by the P&T Committee and adopted by the department for the Virginia Medicaid fee-for-service program. Most drugs on the PDL may be prescribed and dispensed in the Virginia Medicaid fee-for-service program without prior authorization; however, some drugs as recommended by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee may require authorization prior to dispensing to the patient.
Preferred Drug List. A listing of prescription products selected by a pharmaceutical and therapeutics committee as cost-effective choices for clinician consideration when prescribing for Medicaid recipients.
