Population equivalent definition

Population equivalent means the calculated number of people who would contribute an equivalent amount of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) per day as the system in question, assuming that each person contributes 0.167 pounds of five-day, 20 degrees Celsius, BOD per day.
Population equivalent means the population equal to the sum of the population of the geographical area based on the most recent census data, or department of administration census data used for tax sharing purposes, plus the seasonal population not included in the census data, plus one person per 1,000 pounds per year of industrial, commercial and agricultural waste.
Population equivalent means the population that would contribute an equal amount of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) computed on the basis of 0.17 pounds of five-day, 20-degree centigrade BOD per capita per day.

Examples of Population equivalent in a sentence

  • Population equivalent means the unit of average potential water pollution load caused by one person per day.

  • Population equivalent (PE) means the unit of average potential water pollution load caused by one person per day.

  • Population equivalent is a measure of organic biodegradable load.

More Definitions of Population equivalent

Population equivalent or “PE” means the calculated population that would contribute the same amount of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) per day using the base of 0.17 pounds of BOD5 per capita per day.
Population equivalent means an average waste loading equivalent to that produced by one person which is defined as 100 gallons per day.
Population equivalent means the calculated number of people that would normally contribute an equal amount of 0.2 pound of 5 day, 20°C, biochemical oxygen demand per capita per day.
Population equivalent or “PE” mean means the calculated population that would contribute a particular amount of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) per day, using the base of 0.17 pound of five day BOD per capita per day. A different conversion factor may be used in the calculation when approved by the commissioner on the basis of site-specific technical information.
Population equivalent means a term used to evaluate the impact of industrial or other waste on a treatment works or stream. One population equivalent of normal domestic wastewater is 100 gallons of sewage per day, and/or 0.17 pounds of BOD, and/or 0.21 pounds of suspended solids. The impact on a treatment works is evaluated as the equivalent of the highest of the three parameters. Impact on a stream is the higher of the suspended solids parameters.
Population equivalent or “P.E.” shall mean the amount of Biochemical Oxygen Demand contributed per capita per day and for the purpose of this Ordinance shall equal 0.17 pounds of Biochemical Oxygen Demand or B.O.D. per capita per day or such amount as may be determined by the Environmental Protection Agency of the State of Illinois.
Population equivalent means a measure of wastewater production equivalent to one person served by the wastewater treatment facilities: 100 gallons per day, 0.2 pounds per day BOD and TSS, 300 mg/l BOD and TSS, 0.024 pounds per day or 24 mg/l TKN.
