Personal Leave Accrual. All employees shall accrue personal leave at the rate of one and twenty-three hundredths (1.23) hours for each eighty (80) hours in active pay status, excluding overtime hours, not to exceed a total of thirty-two (32) hours accrued in one year.

Upon hire, full-time faculty under contract for three (3) quarters will be credited with ten (10) days of Personal Leave; provided, this initial allocation will be prorated for full-time faculty who begin during an Academic Year, or who are contracted to work a reduced schedule. During the freeze, employees may designate up to eight (8) hours of vacation or compensatory time per quarter beginning August 1, 2009 and continuing through July 31, 2011 to use in lieu of personal leave which shall be granted pursuant to the rules of Section 39.05. Current personal leave accruals available as of July 31, 2009 must be used prior to utilizing other leave in lieu of personal leave.

There shall be a freeze on personal leave accrual beginning with the credit the employee should have received in the first earnings statement after July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2011. During the freeze, the employee will accrue eight (8) hours of compensatory time each fiscal year in lieu of eight (8) hours of personal leave, to be credited to the employee in the pay period including July 1, 2009 and July 1, 2010. During the freeze on personal leave, employees may designate up to ten (10) hours of vacation or compensatory time per quarter beginning July 1, 2009 and continuing through June 30, 2011 to use in lieu of personal leave which shall be granted pursuant to the rules of Section 12.04. Current personal leave accruals available as of June 30, 2009 must be used prior to utilizing other leave in lieu of personal leave. Personal leave accrual shall resume in the first earnings statement the employee receives after July 1, 2011. Upon the resumption of personal leave accrual, there shall be no retroactive personal leave accrual for the period the freeze was in effect. Personal Leave Accrual. Full-time Employees shall be allowed twenty-four (24) hours of paid personal leave of absence each calendar year (except new hires). New hires shall receive leave of absence on a pro-rata basis effective one hundred twenty (120) days after the beginning of employment to the end of that calendar year. Personal leave time may be used only with prior approval of the Employer and may be used in conjunction with other accrued leave time with the prior approval of the Employer. All balances in the employee’s Personal Leave Account must be used no later than the last full pay period of the year.
