Law enforcement official definition

Law enforcement official has the same meaning as the term "law enforcement official" at 45 C.F.R. § 164.103.
Law enforcement official means any appointed or elected federal, state, or local official with overall executive responsibility to coordinate law enforcement in the jurisdiction in which the emergency or event has occurred.
Law enforcement official means an officer or employee of any agency or authority of the United States, a state, a territory, a political subdivision of a state or territory, or an Indian tribe, who is empowered by law to: (a) investigate or conduct an official inquiry into a potential violation of law; or (b) prosecute or otherwise conduct a criminal, civil, or administrative proceeding arising from an alleged violation of law.
