Graduate Medical. Education: The period of didactic and clinical education in a 23 medical specialty which follows the completion of a recognized undergraduate medical 24 education and which prepares physicians for the independent practice of medicine in 25 that specialty, also referred to as residency education. The term "graduate medical 26 education” also applies to the period of didactic and clinical education in a medical 27 subspecialty which follows the completion of education in a recognized medical 28 specialty and which prepares physicians for the independent practice of medicine in that 29 subspecialty.
