Flashpoint definition

Flashpoint means the minimum temperature at which a liquid gives off a vapor in sufficient concentration to ignite when tested as follows:
Flashpoint means the minimum liquid temperature at which a spark or flame causes an instantaneous flash in the vapour space above the liquid;
Flashpoint means a flashpoint determined by a test using the closed-cup apparatus referenced in the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code.

Examples of Flashpoint in a sentence

  • High Flashpoint SolventsWaste solvents with a high flashpoint are not typically hazardous and can be recycled, unless the solvent is tested for pH and toxicity and is determined to be hazardous waste.

  • For a liquid which has a viscosity of 45 SUS or more at 100°F (37.8 °C), or contains suspended solids, or has a tendency to form a surface film while under test, the Standard Method of Test for Flashpoint by Pensky-Martens Closed Tester (ASTM D–93–71) or an equivalent method as defined by Ap- pendix B to § 1910.1200—Physical Hazard Criteria, shall be used except that the methods specified in Note 1 to section 1.1 of ASTM D–93–71 may be used for the respective materials specified in the Note.

More Definitions of Flashpoint

Flashpoint means the minimum temperature at which a liquid gives off vapor within a test vessel in sufficient concentration to form an ignitable mixture with air near the surface of the liquid, and shall be determined as follows:
Flashpoint means the temperature in degrees Celsius (closed cup test) at which a product will give off enough flammable vapour to be ignited, as determined by an approved flashpoint apparatus;
Flashpoint means the lowest temperature in °C at which a liquid will produce enough vapour to ignite, if the vapour is flammable. For a specific definition for the purposes of classifying substances, reference should be made to the ADG Code1. Flashpoint is established by closed or open cup methods. The lower the flashpoint, the higher the risk of fire.
Flashpoint means the minimum temperature at which a liquid gives off a vapor in sufficient con- centration to ignite when tested as follows:
Flashpoint means the lowest temperature of a product at standard conditions at which the product's vapors will ignite momentarily when subjected to a flame. Flashpoint temperatures shall be determined pursuant to the procedures set forth in 16 C.F.R.§1500.43a or successor regulations.
Flashpoint means the lowest temperature of a flammable liquid at which its vapour forms an ignitable mixture with air as determined by the closed-cup method; (point d’éclair)
Flashpoint means the temperature at which enough vapour collects on the surface of a liquid to become flammable;
