Family and Medical Leave Act definition

Family and Medical Leave Act means the federal Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993, Pub.L. 103-3, 29 U.S.C. section 2601 et seq.
Family and Medical Leave Act or "FMLA" means the federal law set forth in 29 U.S.C. 28.
Family and Medical Leave Act. (FMLA) means leave may be taken for any of the following reasons:

  • Upon submission to the supervisor of appropriate documentation, employees shall be granted a leave of absence for up to twelve (12) weeks under the terms and conditions set forth in the Family and Medical Leave Act in connection with the birth or adoption of a child.

  • An employee who meets the eligibility requirements of the Family and Medical Leave Act may apply for leave of absence.

  • Employees who meet the eligibility requirements of the Seattle Municipal Code, Chapter 4.26, “Family and Medical Leave,” or the federal Family and Medical Leave Act, may take leave to care for themselves and qualified dependents.

  • Where the Employer is requiring the examination to certify an employee’s eligibility for Family and Medical Leave Act time (the FML “second opinion”), the Employer’s selection of a healthcare provider shall be in accordance with the regulations governing the Family and Medical Leave Act.

  • However, where the examination is to determine an employee’s eligibility for sick leave, Medical Leave, Disability Leave, etc., following the employee’s exhaustion of Family and Medical Leave Act time, or in a situation where the employee is not eligible for Family and Medical Leave Act time, the selection of the healthcare provider shall be within the sole discretion of the Employer.
