Eligible Spouse definition

Eligible Spouse means a spouse of an Eligible Retiree who satisfies the requirements for eligibility described in the Eligibility section of this document, or an ex-spouse who is an Eligible Spouse with rights to coverage as an Eligible Spouse pursuant to a court order recognized by SHARP. A Spouse must be married to retiree at least one year prior to the effective date of retirement. A Spouse married after the retiree’s effective retirement date is considered a non-eligible spouse for purposes of the Plan. [See “Spouse”]
Eligible Spouse means the individual to whom the Member is married, or to whom the Member was married on the date of his death. The determination of whether a Member is married shall be made by the Vice President based on the law of the location that is determined by the Vice President to be the Member’s principal residence; provided, however, that for purposes of the DC Program, a Member shall have only one Eligible Spouse.
Eligible Spouse means a Spouse as further defined in Section 2.3.

Examples of Eligible Spouse in a sentence

  • Your spouse or registered domestic partner is considered an Eligible Spouse or Qualified Domestic Partner if you have been continuously married or regis- tered as a Qualified Domestic Partner at least two years prior to the date of your death and are married to that spouse or registered to that Qualified Do- mestic Partner at the time of your death, and your spouse or Qualified Domes- tic Partner is at least 55 years old.

  • If you do not have an Eligible Spouse or Qualified Domestic Partner, the 60 percent continuancemay be paid to your Eligible Child upon your death.

  • If you do not have an Eligible Spouse, Qualified Domestic Partner or Eligible Child at the time of your death, your designated beneficiary will receive a lump sum refund of any of your remaining member contributions.

  • For certain death benefits your Eligible Spouse or Qualified Domestic Partner must be listed as your beneficiary at the time of your death.

  • An Eligible Retiree’s spouse who works full-time and is eligible for coverage under his/her employer’s healthcare plan is not an Eligible Spouse unless he/she takes primary coverage under the employer’s healthcare plan.

Eligible Spouse means:

Should the principal member have more than one spouse who could qualify as an eligible spouse, then that principal member must make an irrevocable nomination of one eligible spouse to whom the benefits provided in these Terms and Conditions are to apply. No benefits will be paid in respect of an eligible spouse if more than one person qualifies as such and no nomination has been made by the principal insured person.
