Discretionary time for students means school-related time that is not instructional time. It includes free time before and after school, during lunch and between classes or on buses, and private time before athletic and other events or activities.

Discretionary time. For those RSSSA employees who are classified as “exempt” under the Fair Labor Standards Act, it is understood and acknowledged that they do not necessarily have a fixed schedule but, rather, are expected to fulfill all responsibilities in a timely manner. In return, the Board recognizes that there may be times when such an employee needs time away from the workplace during the day to accomplish personal matters that do not require a full day’s absence.
