Discretionary time. For those RSSSA employees who are classified as “exempt” under the Fair Labor Standards Act, it is understood and acknowledged that they do not necessarily have a fixed schedule but, rather, are expected to fulfill all responsibilities in a timely manner. In return, the Board recognizes that there may be times when such an employee needs time away from the workplace during the day to accomplish personal matters that do not require a full day’s absence. With prior approval of the exempt employee’s direct supervisor, he/she will be permitted to address these discretionary needs without loss of pay or risk of disciplinary action.
