Defensible space definition

Defensible space means the area within the perimeter of a parcel development, neighborhood or community where basic wildland fire protection measures are implemented, providing the key point of defense from an approaching wildfire or defense against encroaching wildfires or escaping structure fires. The perimeter as used in this regulation is the area encompassing the parcel or parcels proposed for construction and/or development, excluding the physical structure itself. The area is characterized by the establishment and maintenance of emergency vehicle access, emergency water reserves, road names and building identification, and fuel modification measures.
Defensible space means that area described in the Napa County Defensible Space Guidelines which is adjacent to each side of a building or structure and must be cleared of all brush, flammable vegetation, or combustible growth, subject however to the exceptions set forth in the Napa County Defensible Space Guidelines.
Defensible space means the required space between a structure and wildland area that, under normal conditions, creates a sufficient buffer to slow or halt the spread of wildfire to a structure.

Examples of Defensible space in a sentence

  • Defensible space zones should be greater on slopes below a structure, and cut banks above structures should be treated to minimize collapse zone hazards.

  • Defensible space will be maintained around all buildings and structures in State Responsibility Area (SRA) as required in Public Resources Code 4290 and “SRA Fire Safe Regulations” California Code of Regulations, Title 14 Division 1.5, Chapter 7, Subchapter 2, Section 1270.

  • Defensible space creates a safer place for firefighters to operate and for residents to evacuate.

  • Defensible space may also reduce the likelihood that a structural fire will spread to neighboring homes or wildlands.

  • We previously demonstrated that our methods selected MZ and DZ twins in an unbiased (i.e., representative) fashion and with equal probability, and this also applies to the current 51,609 respondents.
