Bench mark definition

Bench mark means any relatively immovable point on the earth whose elevation above or below an adopted datum is known.
Bench mark or “BM” means a permanently estab- lished point, the elevation of which is assumed or known, which serves as a vertical reference point, and which may also serve as a horizontal reference point.
Bench mark means an identifiable stable reference point established as a record for future use or reestablishment of the elevation datum of a survey requiring vertical data.
