API Gravity definition

API Gravity means gravity determined in accordance with ASTM Designation D-287-92 or latest revision thereof.
API Gravity means the American Petroleum Institute gravity expressed in degrees in relation to liquids, which is a measure of how heavy or light a petroleum liquid is compared to water. If a petroleum liquid's API gravity is greater than 10, it is lighter and floats on water; if less than 10, it is heavier than water and sinks. API gravity is thus a measure of the relative density of a petroleum liquid and the density of water, but it is used to compare the relative densities of petroleum liquids;
API Gravity means gravity determined in accordance with the American Society for Testing Materials Designation set out in Item 3(A).

Examples of API Gravity in a sentence

  • The gravity value necessary to determine the correct Group Classification to be used, shall be determined in accordance with ASTM D287 (or most recent version), API Gravity of Crude Petroleum and Petroleum Products.

  • Products shall have an A.P.I. Gravity at 60 degrees Fahrenheit of not less than 25 degrees and not more than 80 degrees; have a viscosity not more than 4.3 centistokes at 100 d egrees Fahrenheit; have a vapor pressure not more than 15 P.S.I. Reid; and have a color not darker than No. 3 A.S.T.M., except that distillates to which artificial coloring has been added will be accepted for transportation regardless of color after addition of dye.

  • Carrier will not accept nor transport Crude Petroleum that does not meet the specifications set forth in the table below: (1) For further deliveries on Carrier’s pipeline system beyond Colorado City Station, Scurry County, Texas, Shippers must comply with the connecting carrier’s API Gravity specifications as required under Item 13(B) of Carrier’s Rules and Regulations Tariff, FERC No 35.6.0, including the specifications of BridgeTex Pipeline and the connecting carriers at Cushing, Oklahoma.

  • This Item 3(H) and the remedies and fees provided for in this Item shall not apply to Off-Spec Product accepted by Carrier under Item 3(F)(i) or to Product that Carrier accepts for gathering as Higher A.P.I. Gravity Crude Petroleum.

More Definitions of API Gravity

API Gravity means a scale used to reflect the specific gravity (SG) of a fluid such as crude oil, water, or natural gas. The API gravity is calculated as [(141.5/SG) - 131.5], where SG is the specific gravity of the fluid at 60°F, where API refers to the American Petroleum Institute.
API Gravity means gravity determined in accordance with the ASTM Designation set out in Item 3.
