Alternative Shift. A pattern of working hours that varies from the above, such as a shift of more or fewer hours, or one that is split. Shift Work: Positions that are scheduled for multiple shifts in a 24-hour period. Day: A fixed and regularly recurring period of 24 hours used for the purpose of establishing a schedule. Standard Day: The 24-hour period extending from 12 midnight to 12 midnight. Alternative Day: A 24-hour period extending from a time other than 12 midnight to 12 midnight, e.g., 12 noon to 12 noon.
