Academic Needs definition

Academic Needs. A teacher is eligible for an increase in salary under this factor if that teacher earns additional content area degree or credit hours beyond the requirement for employment. Eligible content areas are any content area, as defined by the Indiana Department of Education, in which the teacher currently teachers or any other content area as approved by the Superintendent. This factor is limited to 33% of any available increase.

Academic Needs. The salary increase for academic needs is a teacher retention catch-up, defined as the adjustment of the salary of a returning teacher up to the salary amount in 2023-2024 salary scale for a new teacher with equivalent experience and education. Distribution Plan Description: For 2023-2024, the salary schedule has been increased across the board by $4,200. All teachers meeting the evaluation factor will receive this across the board increase to the schedule. In addition, certain teachers who meet the academic needs factor will receive an additional differentiated increase to their base, which increase is a teacher retention catch-up. After receiving the increase for the evaluation factor, any teacher whose salary is still below that of a newly hired teacher with the same years of experience and education, according to the 2023-2024 salary schedule below, will receive an additional differentiated increase in an amount equal to the difference between the teacher’s current salary and that of a new hire who has the same experience and education. Because the teacher retention catch-up increases under the academic needs factor are salary adjustments made in comparison to new teacher salaries, they are exempt from the 50% limitation on education. There will be no additional base salary increases for the 2023-2024 school year beyond those described in this distribution plan. One-Time Equalizing Stipend: Teachers who are at or who hit the salary cap will receive an equalizing stipend that is calculated as follows: $4,200 – base salary increase = equalizing stipend amount. New hire placement: Letters on the New Hire Placement Schedule in Section 2 below will equate to a range of years of experience for salary placement. (A=0-2 yr., B=3 yr., C=4-5 yrs., D=6-7 yrs., E=8 yrs., F=9 yrs, etc… With the exception of A, C, and D, placement = 1 year of experience).   • Academic year means the period of twelve months beginning on 1st January, 1st April, 1st July or 1st September according to whether the course in question begins in the winter, the spring, the summer or the autumn respectively but if students are required to begin attending the course during August or September and to continue attending through the autumn, the academic year of the course is to be considered to begin in the autumn rather than the summer;
