Xxxxx Xxxx appointed ICMR Director General.  Xx Xxxxx Xxxx has been appointed as the new director general of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)-cum-secretary of the department of health Research for a period of three years.  Xxxx currently heads the research on maternal, newborn child and adolescent health cum-new- born unit on maternal, Department of Maternal Newborn Child and Adolescent Health and Ageing, at the World Health Organisation (WHO) in Geneva.  His predecessor, Xx Xxxxxx Xxxxxxxx’s extended tenure as director general of ICMR and secretary of the Department of Health Research ended in July.  Xxxxxxxx was appointed to the post on April 16, 2018, for four years. The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Xx Xxxxx Xxxx.  ICMR, New Delhi, the apex body in India for the formulation, coordination and promotion of bio- medical research, is one of the oldest medical research bodies in the world.  The premier medical research organization promotes and supports intramural and extramural re- search activities in the fields of communicable and non-communicable diseases and basic medical sciences.
