Workyear. A “workyear” shall be determined by the District in accordance with the Assignment Bases established in Board Rule 1990. The District reserves the right to add new bases or modify existing bases to meet the operational needs of the District.

Workyear. Education Administrators shall have a workyear beginning September 1 and ending the following August 31. Education Administrators will be paid for all Board of Education holidays and all other days on which their office is closed for special observance or emergency pursuant to action of the Chancellor or community superintendent.

Effective February 2006 full-time adult education teachers shall have 10 minutes of preparation time added to their workday, and they shall report the Thursday and Friday before Labor Day and on Brooklyn-Queens Day for professional development. In most cases there will be a ten month year scheduled to the extent possible between September and June. The Office of Adult and Continuing Education reserves the right, when programs dictate, to create ten month schedules other than between September and June and other than in a consecutive mode. Furthermore, it may be necessary to continue programs into the summer to meet the 189 ½ or 191 ½ days.‌‌‌‌‌‌‌

Workyear. The school district calendar will be developed by the Superintendent and approved by the Board. The Superintendent may consult with administrators, faculty, and staff in developing the school district calendar. To the extent possible, the calendar will be coordinated with the school calendars of area vocational schools and regional special education programs. No more than three of the six non-instructional days may be scheduled any sooner than seven calendar days before the first day of school for students. Teachers who are contracted to work more than 186 days shall submit biweekly to the principal a list of which days and/or half-days in excess of the 186-day teacher work year they have worked. Any days that the schools are closed for emergency reasons will be made up by first, extending the school year; second, by holding Saturday classes, except when the Saturday immediately precedes or follows a scheduled school vacation period; third, by extending the school day; and then, as a last resort holding classes during a scheduled school vacation period. Under special circumstances, the School Board may request a waiver from the Commissioner of Education for the State School Board of Education attendance requirement. The downtime shall consist of four (4) weeks taken during July and/or August, one (1) week during the winter recess, and one (1) week during the spring recess, and one (1) additional week during the summer or during a school recess, as mutually arranged. The ten (10) days of vacation time must be taken during the year in which earned and scheduled with the Project or Education Director. Vacation scheduling requests will not be unreasonably denied. In scheduling vacation time, employees’ preferences shall be given where possible and where consistent with program needs.

Workyear. AEA members will continue to work their same contractual days as stated in the contract. An additional two (2) days prior to the work year (August 3rd and 4th) will be offered to provide professional development on a paid voluntary basis; schedule TBD. This time must be used on campus or virtual. The PD will include safety procedures, virtual teaching, and the hybrid model. Teachers unable to attend the voluntary PD days will complete the safety training on one of the 3 teacher prep days.

Employees may be employed for a shorter work year when agreed upon with their supervisor at the time of employment. Any such agreements will be reduced to writing and be submitted to the district supervisor or Deputy Superintendent for approval.
