WORK YEAR AND HOURS. A. The teachers’ work day shall be as established by the host school and shall be when pupils are available for instructional purposes except that such hours shall not be more than 6.75 consecutive hours unless with prior administrative approval.

Although SJPEC unit members are exempt from overtime compensation in accordance with the existing laws, the District recognizes that the responsibilities of administrators do not lend themselves to a defined workday or work week and as a result the District understands that the hours required will be reasonable from day to day, and week to week.

The work year for teachers (other than employees who may be required to attend before-school new- teacher orientation sessions) will begin no earlier than the Monday prior to Labor Day and end no later than June 30th. The “work year” will include days when students are in attendance, orientation days at the beginning of the school year and professional development days. The Committee recognizes the benefits of scheduling the workdays to end before June 30, and the benefit of adhering to scheduled vacations. If the Committee determines that a different schedule is necessary, it will notify the Association and consult if requested. The school calendar will be established in collaboration with the Superintendent, the Union and the Calendar Committee. While it is recognized that the final decision in hours of duty for bargaining unit members rests with the Committee, it is agreed that there will be no permanent change of these hours until there has been consultation with the Association on the matter. The Committee and the Association recognize the benefits of employees arriving at school in time to adequately prepare for and welcome students each day and making themselves regularly available to parents and students either before or after school in performance of their professional duties. The Association and Committee recognize the benefits of scheduling classes to begin no later than 9:00 a.m.
WORK YEAR AND HOURS a) The work year of the ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT shall consist of two hundred sixty-one (261) days, over a period of twelve (12) months. As such, her per diem rate is 1/261st of her annual salary.

Normal operations include orientation and in-service training, opening of school in the fall, usually in August, through the closing of schools in the spring, usually in June, as shown in the officially adopted school calendar.

The Employees' workday shall be as follows: Special Education and 8:20 a.m. to 2:40 p.m. Alternative Schools (8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with students) Auxiliary Services to Non- 6 consecutive hours between Public Schools 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (Schedule to be determined by Supervisor) Substance Abuse Coordinator 8:20 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. School Safety + Security Monitors 8:20 a.m. to 2:40 p.m. Interim Alternative 9:20 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. Education Program On days preceding holidays or Commission vacations, the ten-month employees’ day shall end at the close of the Commission pupils’ day. The Auxiliary Services dismissal time will be governed by the schedule for special education and alternative schools.
