WORK DAY AND WORK YEAR. A. The salaries provided in Appendices ▇-▇, ▇-▇ and A-3 are based upon a teacher employment year consisting of one hundred and eighty (180) full school sessions within the meaning of the Connecticut General Statutes, and up to six (6) additional work days to be used in the discretion of the Board of Education to provide additional instruction to students, in-service programs, professional development, curriculum work, or other educational activities in the best interest of the school system. If the Board of Education determines in its discretion to increase the work year beyond that described above, for each additional work day the Board of Education agrees to compensate teachers at the rate of a per diem, defined as 1/186th of the annual salaries provided in Appendices ▇-▇, ▇-▇ ▇▇▇ ▇-▇.
▇. ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇▇ employed beyond the contracted days (186) shall be paid at the per diem rate of the teacher's appropriate step on the salary schedule. (See Appendix B)
C. As part of their professional responsibility, teachers agree to accept assignments without additional compensation which involve them with students activities of a temporary nature. Such activities include, but are not limited to chaperoning dances, field trips and similar activities and similar assignments which have not previously been considered compensatory positions or duties. A list of activities will be posted by the principal or designee at the beginning of each school year. Teachers will select an area of participation or indicate what extracurricular activity he or she wishes to participate in for that year. Whenever possible, teacher preferences shall be considered; however, the Superintendent's decision on any assignment shall be final.
D. The teacher work day will include all assignments made by the administration from fifteen minutes before the opening of school to fifteen minutes following the close of school. In addition, teachers are expected to be available for staff and other administrative meetings for a total of not more than an additional 90 minutes per week. The administration will use its best efforts to schedule such meetings at a time contiguous with the work day.
E. The work year of employees who work beyond 186 days shall be established after the budget is established for that contract year. WORK DAY AND WORK YEAR. During the collaborative discussions utilizing the interest based bargaining model which resulted in a successor agreement, representatives of the parties reached consensus on several important issues concerning the need to more adequately respect the time constraints placed upon teaching professionals. More specifically, though the language of the Agreement broadly references an eight (8) hour day (“on the average”), there was recognition that teachers often work in excess of that, whether it be on campus or off.
WORK DAY AND WORK YEAR. 6.10.1 On-site shall be defined as the places where an Employee performs their professional duties. It may be a particular school where they are assigned and it may be other locations as dictated by the necessities of the job being performed.
6.10.2 Employees will not be assigned the following:
6.10.2.1 Activity supervision for which stipends are offered including chaperoning of evening dances;
6.10.2.2 Elementary bus loading, and bus and school patrol duties for which stipends are offered;
6.10.2.3 Custodian and secretarial duties normally performed by classified employees; and
6.10.2.4 Crowd control and admissions supervision where stipends are offered. The District does not intend to increase responsibilities of Employees in the areas noted above during this Contract.
6.10.2.5 Employees will not be assigned substitute duty as building level administrator.
6.10.2.6 The on-site work day will be continuous, with the exception of no more than two (2) school-wide evening events e.g. typically one fall event and one spring event or high school graduation. No evening or weekend mandatory assignments as part of the work day/week are required. On-site work day/hour requirements may be waived for off-site Employee activities.
6.10.2.7 Elementary recess will be scheduled daily for fifteen (15) minutes, Monday through Friday.
6.10.2.8 Appendix D of this Contract contains work year calendars for the next three work years. It is the intent of the parties to maintain a 3-year cycle of work calendars. Therefore, the parties will meet annually to develop the third (3rd) year work calendar.
WORK DAY AND WORK YEAR. A. The work year for school nurses will begin no earlier than August 28 and terminate no later than June 30, but will in no event be longer than five (5) days more than the number of days when pupils are required to be in attendance by state law. The “work year” will include days when pupils are in attendance, two (2) orientation days at the beginning of the school year, a conference day at some time after the first day and before the last day of the school year but not on a holiday or during a vacation week, and two (2) days scheduled by mutual consent of the parties. Should the teachers consent to start earlier than August 28, the MNA will consent to the date agreed to by the teachers. Any increase in the now existing state minimum of school days will be reflected in a proportional increase in individual salaries.
B. The school nurses shall have a work day consisting of seven (7) hours and twenty (20) minutes with the beginning and ending times of the work day to be determined by the Superintendent of Schools and the building Principal in each school in consultation with the Health Services Coordinator prior to the opening day of school. Nurses shall report at least fifteen (15) minutes prior to the students’ starting school and shall remain at least fifteen (15) minutes after the students’ day.
C. Each nurse is entitled to a thirty (30) minute lunch period to be taken at his/her discretion as assigned by the building principal after consultation with the nurse. Nurses may be required to attend to emergencies during their regular lunch period. When the nurses’ lunch is interrupted by an emergency, the remainder of the lunch period will be rescheduled.
D. Additional time may be granted on an as needed basis for the purpose of evaluating immunization and related student health records/information. Any nurse who desires additional time must submit this request in advance, in writing, to the building principal. Approval is subject to the discretion of the building principal and Health Services Coordinator. A nurse shall be compensated at their regular hourly rate as described in Appendix A.
E. Provided it is consistent with town by-laws, employees hired for less than a full school year but more than ninety (90) days, will receive all benefits set forth in this Agreement on a pro-rata basis based on the number of days of employment.
WORK DAY AND WORK YEAR. 18.1 The teacher’s day shall be seven and one-half (7 1/2) hours long, including a duty free lunch period equivalent to the length of the lunch period of the students in the building where the teacher is located during the class period immediately preceding lunch. This lunch hour shall be no less than 35 minutes. When school is dismissed early due to weather conditions, the teacher’s workday will be reduced proportionately.
18.2 A teacher’s normal workday shall be from 8:00 A.M. till 3:30 P.M. except that a teacher and the Board may agree mutually that a teacher’s workday can commence as early as 7:00 A.M., or as late as 9:30 A.M., with such adjustment to be in effect for a minimum of one semester unless otherwise specified by mutual agreement.
18.3 Teachers shall be free to leave the building during their preparation time only for matters pertaining to the performance of their employment duties for the School District; teachers must, before leaving the building during their preparation time, report to the principal at their attendance center in advance of their contemplated absence, the expected length thereof, and the specific reasons therefore.
18.4 Extracurricular duties shall be limited to the following areas:
A. Night meetings at the Senior High School for club sponsors shall be on a voluntary basis, and no increment for these meetings shall be paid.
B. Teachers shall not be required to attend PTA or similar meetings.
C. Coaches shall not be responsible for hiring officials, for scheduling ball games, or for busing schedules for interscholastic sports.
18.5 School will be dismissed at 2:00 p.m. until the day following Labor Day.
18.6 The school year shall consist of 180 days.
18.7 A. All teachers shall be available at reasonable times after the termination of their seven and one-half hour day for scheduled parents and/or student conferences. Conferences shall be held as nearly contiguous to the teacher’s workday as circumstances permit. Teachers not available for parent/teacher conferences due to circumstances previously approved by the building principal or illness, will not be docked but will make up the time and provide the building administrator with documentation of such time.
WORK DAY AND WORK YEAR. 4 1. The secretaries’ workday shall be seven and one-half (7 1/2) hours excluding the 5 lunch break. Secretaries in the Association are considered twelve (12) month 6 employees and their salaries are based upon a twelve (12) month position. Salaries 7 for secretaries who are not twelve (12) month employees shall be prorated for the 8 number of months (less than twelve (12)) which the secretary works per year.
9 2. Secretaries shall have a duty free consecutive thirty (30) minute break for lunch 10 between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
11 3. Secretaries may leave the building during their duty-free lunch break.
12 4. If the district’s schools are closed for reasons of safety, such as weather conditions, 13 then the district’s schools are also closed for Association secretaries.
14 5. All secretaries, including those returning from leave, shall be informed in writing 15 of their tentative assignment and salary status no later than the date required by law.
WORK DAY AND WORK YEAR. The teacher work day shall be 7.5 hours in length. Teacher arrival and departure times shall be set by the Executive Director. On days before scheduled holidays, teachers may leave after the dismissal of the student body as long as the students in their care are provided for and their presence, as determined by the Executive Director, is not otherwise reasonably required. The parties recognize that the salaries set forth in this Agreement are based upon a teacher work year consisting of 186 days and 187 for new teachers. Prior to establishing the school calendar for any given the year, the School shall provide an opportunity for the Association to have input regarding the proposed calendar, with the understanding that the School shall have the right to establish the calendar. The School will notify teachers of the proposed calendar for the next employment year by close of the preceding school year.

WORK DAY AND WORK YEAR. 11:1 The in-school work year for teachers and aides shall not exceed one hundred eighty-six (186) days.
11:2 All teachers and teacher aides shall be required to attend Back-to-School Night at the school to which the teacher or teacher aide is assigned. Back-to-School Night shall be scheduled on a day when the students are scheduled for a minimum length instructional day.
