VACATIONS PAY. Employees covered by this agreement shall be granted with pay on the following basis. Calculation of vacations shall be based on August Length of Service Period of Vacation Approximate Vacation Pay Equivalency months no. of months months Vacations are to be taken during July and August when practicable. Custodial staff must complete their vacation period one (Iw)eek prior to Labour Day. Employees with years of service or more, vacations to be taken at a mutually agreeable time, during the calendar year. The granting of such requests will be made at the sole discretion of the Board. Maintenance staff may take vacation at any time during the year but a vacation period of more than three (3) weeks during the months of July and August will be at the discretion of the Superintendent of Business and Plant. For each week of vacation (up to a maximum of three weeks) not taken during the months of July and August, a one-half day bonus (up to a maximum of one and one-half days) will be paid. An employee may request time off in lieu of the paid bonus. When an employee is granted a leave of absence, with salary deduction, which aggregates twenty (20) working days or more during a calendar year, vacation pay and entitlement shall be prorated according to time worked. An employee on paid sick leave, wage loss, or will accumulate vacation credits for up to one year from the date of disability, and will resume accumulation upon return to work. An employee may choose to sell back up to seventy (70) vacation hours. Such selection must be made in writing by the employee to the Human Resources Office no later than November first (1st). If November 1st is a weekend or a day that is not open to normal business hours, such selection must be made by close of business of the Human Resources Office on the last business day prior to November 1st. The Human Resources office will send out notification to all employees of the deadline at least two (2) weeks in advance. Payment will be made in the final pay check of the calendar year.
