Utility Locates. Contractor will be responsible to locate existing utilities and underground facilities that are indicated in the Contract Documents or that are known or reasonably should be known to exist in proximity to the Work. Contractor shall provide timely notice and locate requests with any affected utility or through contact with appropriate notification centers before commencing excavation or demolition Work that Contractor knows or reasonably should know is in proximity to such utilities or facilities. Contractor assumes the sole risk and will be responsible for all delay and expense arising out of Contractor’s failure to do so.

Utility Locates. R&E and/or NWS shall call the state “dial-before-you-dig” contractor number to determine utility locations prior to the design survey. However, “dial-before-you-dig” locators do not check utilities outside of the public right of way, and in some cases do not perform locates for design purposes or in a timely manner. R&E will contract with a private locating company for utility locates outside of the public right of way and for utilities not located for design purposes.

Utility Locates. 13.1 Contractors completing any excavation work are required by law to notify Iowa One Call (000-000-0000 or 811) for locates of utilities at least 48 hours prior to ALL excavations (not including weekends and holidays). No excavation work can commence until after this 48 hour time-period commencing with the issuance of a locate request or dig number from Iowa One Call has transpired.

The indication of utilities on the Drawings does not relieve the Service Provider of the responsibility for utility location. Potholing related to irrigation installation shall be considered incidental to irrigation installation and will not be paid separately. Route trenches to avoid existing utilities. Verify with the Project Manager any required relocation prior to installation. Repair any underground utilities damaged during construction. Make repairs at no additional cost to the contract price.

Utility Locates. Prior to site activities, the Indiana Underground Plant Protection Services (IUPPS) will be utilized to locate public utility lines in the vicinity of the site. Locates will be requested from IUPPS a minimum of 48 hours prior to commencement of field investigations. IUPPS will not identify private utilities that service the site, buried storage tanks, or other subsurface appurtenances that may be present. Therefore, a private utility locate service will be included as part of this scope. Identified subsurface utility lines will be included on a site plan for inclusion in the Phase II report deliverable.
Utility Locates. This work will be done by a subcontractor. Utility Locates < 10-ft depth will be performed by a firm registered to perform utility locates at the PBWTP and JKWTP applicable to the proposed areas of construction for this Project.
