Use of Bereavement Leave. Three (3) paid days shall be allowed for the death of a parent, step parent, spouse, child, step child, sister, brother, father-in-law, mother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew or dependent of the immediate household. When the employee has legal and family responsibilities connected with said death, he/she may be granted additional time as stipulated by the Superintendent.

Use of Bereavement Leave. Members of the bargaining unit are eligible to receive three (3) days bereavement leave with pay for death of an immediate family member. For purposes of making necessary arrangements, etc., said days are not required to be consecutive. Members of the bargaining unit may be eligible to receive up to one (1) day of paid bereavement leave to attend the funeral service(s) for a co-worker. Employees must receive their supervisor’s approval prior to attending such funeral service(s) to ensure the operations of the City shall not be interrupted. For a former co-worker’s funeral service(s), refer to Section 21.3 for leave use for a close friend.
Use of Bereavement Leave. Upon completion of one (1) year of continuous service, an employee shall be eligible to use up to twenty-four (24) hours of paid bereavement leave for the death of an immediate family member. For purposes of bereavement leave, “immediate family member” shall include son, daughter, sibling, spouse, parent, grandparent, grandchild, and in-laws of the same relation. Bereavement leave shall not exceed twenty-four (24) hours in any contract year for an immediate family member. Upon completion of one (1) year of continuous service, an employee shall be eligible to use up to sixteen (16) hours of paid bereavement leave for the death of a non-immediate family member. For purposes of bereavement leave, “non-immediate family member” shall include aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Bereavement leave shall not exceed sixteen (16) hours in any contract year for a non-immediate family member.
Use of Bereavement Leave. 1. Bereavement Leave may be used only with the permission of the Health Director. Bereavement leave may not be unreasonably denied.
Use of Bereavement Leave. The County has amended Section 12.3 of the Butte County Personnel Rules to allow the use of bereavement leave in the case of the death of individuals, other than those already listed, living in an employees household as a family member and to include brother-in law, sister-in law and registered Domestic Partners. Approval shall be on a case by case basis by the Director of Human Resources in his/her sole discretion.

Use of Bereavement Leave. EMPLOYER agrees to provide EMPLOYEE up to forty (40) hours of bereavement leave for each incident of death in EMPLOYEE’S immediate family, with full pay and benefits, to attend the funeral of a family member and/or make arrangements regarding the funeral. Bereavement leave need not need be used over consecutive days, but must be used within thirty (30) days of first use per incident of death.
