Unsafe Vehicles. Under no circumstances shall a supervisor of the City require a Member to operate an unsafe department vehicle.

Unsafe Vehicles. It is in the mutual advantage of both the Company and employee that employees should not operate vehicles, which are not in a safe operating condition, and not equipped with the safety appliances required by law.
Unsafe Vehicles. The Employer shall not require employees to take out on the streets or highways any vehicle that is not in safe operating condition or not properly equipped to conform with existing laws or by-laws.
Unsafe Vehicles. If a vehicle assigned to an officer shall be considered by said officer to be defective or unsafe for use during any tour of duty, the officer shall cause such condition to be promptly brought to the attention of the immediate supervisor. The immediate supervisor shall then promptly make a determination as to the condition of the vehicle and shall at that time take the responsibility to determine whether the condition constitutes a violation of state or federal law and is safe for use as a police vehicle.

Unsafe Vehicles. Employees are to advise and report on all unsafe vehicles and repair and maintenance requirements to the Employer as soon as observed and record these requirements on the weekly log.
Unsafe Vehicles. No driver shall be required to drive any vehicle which is not in a safe operating condition. In the event the driver should discover a vehicle to be defective, he/she must immediately notify the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor in writing. After consultation with the driver and servicing mechanic, the Transportation Supervisor or his designee shall have the final authority to determine whether a vehicle may be safely operated. This determination shall be placed in writing and a copy given to the driver. The statement given the driver should state that the driver is absolved of any liability in the event an accident occurs due to the alleged defect. Upon request, a driver shall be advised in writing of any action taken on the requested repairs of his/her vehicle by the Fleet Maintenance Shop. Drivers shall be advised prior to their run when their bus is out of service.

Renewal of Driver’s License One opportunity every three (3) years will be granted to drivers of the Transport Branch who are required to write tests for Class A, D and Z license renewal. Scheduled Company transportation is to be used for test appointments, which are to be arranged by the employee to introduce as little impact on the employee’s scheduled work as possible. Drivers will be paid for the day on which they write their tests as if their normal routine had been followed.
