Unpaid Sabbatical Leave. 11.0901 The Board, upon recommendation of the Superintendent, may grant an unpaid sabbatical leave of absence to qualified employees for the purpose of study, travel or for such other purposes as may be approved by the Board. All sabbatical leaves of absence shall be without pay and will be granted only upon prior written request.

Unpaid Sabbatical Leave. A. Sabbatical leave may be granted to an Instructional Employee who has served in the District at least two (2) years. Any request for sabbatical leave (form located in Addendum F) must be made in writing not later than May 1 of any school year or at a later date at the discretion of the Superintendent or his/her designee. Conditions under which sabbatical leave may be granted may include additional study, including study of another area of specialization, travel, or other reasons deemed to have value to the school system.
Unpaid Sabbatical Leave. A. A teacher who has completed five (5) years of service may, with the approval of the Board, be entitled to take a leave of absence with part pay for one (1) or two (2) semesters subject to the following restrictions: the teacher shall present to the Superintendent for approval a plan for professional growth prior to requesting a leave, and at the conclusion of the leave, provide evidence that the plan was followed. Written quarterly reports of progress shall be submitted to the Superintendent. The Teacher may be required to return to the District at the end of the leave for a period of at least one (1) year, unless the teacher has completed twenty-five (25) years of teaching in this state. The Board may not grant such a leave unless there is available a satisfactory substitute, nor grant such leave to more than five percent (5%) of the professional staff at any one time, nor allow a part salary in excess of the difference between the substitute’s pay and the teacher’s expected salary, nor grant a leave to any teacher more often than once for each five (5) years of service, nor grant a leave a second time to the same individual when other members of the staff have filed a request for such a leave. A professional staff member not electing to be paid pursuant to paragraph 1 of this proposal shall be granted up to two (2) semesters of professional education leave by the Board subject to the following restrictions:
Unpaid Sabbatical Leave. Unit members with six (6) years or more of service credit may take up to 120 calendars days of unpaid leave of absence every six (6) years, if an appropriate fill-in provider is available to assume the unit member’s regular responsibilities. This leave is subject to the approval of the Health Services Director or designee who will consider the timing of the leave and the suitability of the replacement clinician. This provision is not grievable. Employees on unpaid sabbatical leave shall not accrue any vacation, floating holiday or sick leave credit during this time, nor shall they be paid for County holidays. In order to continue their health benefits during this time, the employee must pay both the County and their share of the health care premium cost. Employees must request such leave in writing to the Health Services Director, including the dates of leave and name of fill-in provider(s), at least ninety (90) calendar days before the beginning of requested leave. Management will provide a written reply within thirty (30) calendar days of the date of receipt of the request, including an explanation if the request is denied.

Unpaid Sabbatical Leave. Employees who have worked for the institute for more than five years may request unpaid sabbatical leave for up to one year. When approving sabbatical leave, management will consider the employees workload, schedule, performance, seniority and replacement cost.
