Unpaid Leaves of Absence. A. A department head or designee may grant an unpaid leave of absence for a period not to exceed one (1) year. The employee shall provide substantiation to support the employee's request for an unpaid leave of absence.

Unpaid Leaves of Absence. 24.01 An employee who has completed one (1) year of continuous service with the Employer may be granted a leave of absence without pay or benefits because of injury, illness, education purposes, employment by the Union, or other personal reasons, including maternity leave. The decision to grant the leave or the length of the leave period will be at the discretion of the Employer with due consideration given to the reasons and evidence presented by the employee to the Employer. Such requests shall not be unreasonably denied.

Unpaid Leaves of Absence. Section 1 The Board, upon written request, may grant a leave of absence, without pay, for a period not to exceed one (1) year, subject to renewal at the will of the Board. A leave of absence for physical or mental disability, without request, may be granted for just cause for a period not to exceed one (1) year.
Unpaid Leaves of Absence. Any unit member granted an unpaid leave of absence shall retain those benefits accrued prior to the period of that unit member’s leave, including seniority; but shall not continue to accrue any benefits while on leave. Upon returning from leave, such unit member shall be placed upon the salary schedule at the step and rank the unit member held prior to the leave, as adjusted by the provisions of any collective bargaining agreements between the Employer and the Association. There shall be no promotion nor shall there be any entitlement to any performance-based awards that might have become available during the leave of absence. This clause shall apply to all unpaid leaves of absence subject to the exception cited in Section C below, unless as otherwise provided herein. Unpaid leaves shall not be unreasonably denied.
