Common use of Union Engagement and Payroll Deductions Clause in Contracts

Union Engagement and Payroll Deductions. The City agrees to deduct from the paycheck of each employee, who has so authorized it, the regular initiation fee, regular monthly dues, assessments and other fees as certified by the Union. The amounts deducted shall be transmitted monthly to the Union on behalf of the employees involved. The performance of this function is recognized as a service to the Union by the City and The City shall honor the terms and conditions of each worker’s Union payroll deduction authorization(s) for the purposes of dues deduction only. The Union agrees to indemnify and hold the Employer harmless from all claims, demands, suits or other forms of liability that arise against the Employer for deducting dues from Union members, including those that have communicated a desire to revoke a previous deduction authorization, along with all other issues related to the deduction of dues or fees. The City will provide the Union access to all newly hired employees and/or persons entering the bargaining unit within thirty (30) days of such hire or entry into the bargaining unit.
