Understudies. Except in the case of emergencies, the Understudies must be furnished with clean costumes when called upon to perform. In any event, the Theatre must provide the Understudies with properly fitted shoes.

Understudies. (A) Except as provided in paragraph (5) below, in an Off-Broadway production, all parts and/or roles except star roles, "bit" parts, and one-person shows, shall be covered by an understudy. Equity shall have sole authority to determine whether an understudy is needed for a star part.
(1) Understudies shall be contracted no later than two weeks after the first public performance. Understudy parts and/or roles assigned to Principals or Chorus must be so assigned on the original contract or with new contracts or riders with appropriate salary adjustments. (2) If any performing member of the cast understudies a Principal part or a role, the Actor shall receive no less than $30.00 per week in addition to the Actor’s own salary for each Actor understudied.
(3) Understudies who are not performing members of the cast are not required to receive any additional compensation above minimum unless engaged as Understudy for four or five roles. In such case, the Understudy shall receive not less than $30.00 per week for each role covered beyond three.
Understudies. (A) All roles except “bit parts” shall be covered by understudies. Understudies shall be engaged no later than one week prior to the first public performance. Such understudies may be nonprofessionals. Each such nonprofessional understudy shall file with Equity a Nonprofessional Registration Form (provided by Equity) upon joining the production. No Actor may be assigned more than four understudy assignments in one production. The Producer shall submit a list of all understudy assignments prior to the first paid public performance.
(B) An understudy assignment made to a contracted Actor who is performing in the production shall be listed on the original contract, or in a rider added to the contract stating the appropriate salary adjustments. (See Rule 58(I), SALARIES.)
(C) Understudies who are not performing members of the company shall be paid no less than the applicable minimum salary for Actors. (See Rule 58(I), SALARIES.)
(D) No Understudy shall be required to perform until one week after the Actor is engaged or assigned as Understudy, has had the script and/or music for one week and has had at least one rehearsal of all relevant scenes, blocking and costume changes in actual time. If the above conditions have not been met, the Understudy shall read the part or may perform if able and willing.
(E) All Understudies to Principal Actors shall be listed in the program by name and role understudied. The listing shall be automatic unless an Understudy requests in writing that it be omitted. Copies of such requests shall be sent to the Producer and Equity.
(F) See Rule 49(C), PROGRAMS, HOUSE BOARDS, CHANGES IN CAST, AND BILLING for the announcement of an Understudy performance.
(G) If in an emergency an Actor performs a part not specified in said Actor's contract, the Actor shall be compensated for such performance at not less than double the pro rata rate of the Actor's contractual salary, and shall thereafter be contracted and compensated for such understudy duty at no less than the applicable prevailing minimum rate, subject to two week termination of the understudy assignment only.
(H) If a nonprofessional is understudying an Actor, the nonprofessional may actually perform the role for a period of not more than two consecutive weeks. Thereafter, a contracted Actor shall fill the role. However, this replacement shall not diminish the original Actor's right to return to the role under his original contract, provided such contract has not been terminated

Understudies i. The Actor on a Weekly Contract shall receive no less than $14.00 per week; and
ii. The Actor on a Per Performance Contract shall receive no less than $4.75 per employment week in addition to the compensation required in rules 65(C)(1)& (2) .

Hair Style or Colour No actor may be required to change the colour and/or style of his/her hair or shave his/her head or grow or shave his ▇▇▇▇▇ unless a rider outlining these requirements is negotiated, signed and appended to the engagement contract. The Theatre shall pay for the expense of changing the colour and/or style and of its up-keep during the run of the engagement and of the restoration to the original colour and/or style at the close of the engagement. Should it prove impossible, for any reason, for the hair to be restored to its original colour, and/or style or should the Artist suffer any permanent loss or damage to his/her hair as a result of a required change in colour and/or style in the first place and/or of its subsequent restoration provided that restoration of the style is not simply a matter of the hair growing back to its original length, then the Theatre shall continue to pay the Artist his/her weekly contractual fee until the hair and/or its former colour is restored, but for a period not to exceed fifty-two weeks beyond the termination of his/her individual contract. When the Artist is required to shave his/her head, the Theatre shall provide a wig satisfactory to the Artist for his/her personal use. Understudies. (A) An understudy when employed or assigned must be engaged under the applicable Equity contract as per Rule 14 CONTRACT or pursuant to a rider attached to the Actor's contract. The below-listed terms and conditions shall apply.

Understudies. Except as provided in paragraph (K) below, the Artist shall not be permitted to understudy unless Artist's Contract so provides.
(A) All parts for which contracts are issued shall be covered by Understudies.
(B) A performing Artist shall be compensated for each Principal role understudied at the rate of not less than $50 per week. A General Understudy shall be compensated at the rate of not less than $50 per week for each Principal role understudied over three. In no event shall a performing Artist be permitted to understudy more than three Principal roles. A General Understudy may understudy not more than five Principal roles.
(C) Where there are non-enumerated Understudies, the Producer must indicate by contract rider, at the time the original contract is executed, that there may be more than one Understudy for the Understudy part contracted and that the Understudy will perform at the Producer's discretion. When a Principal Artist has given advance notice of a leave for vacation or any other purpose, Producer shall provide, absent extraordinary circumstances, two weeks' notice to said Understudies and post which Understudy will be performing for the Artist on leave.
