Shared paths between two plots must be maintained and kept cut and clipped by the adjoining tenants. Paths must be kept clear of obstructions at all times, their surfaces kept even, and no narrower than 600mm (2’). All paths should be wide enough for easy pedestrian access. Tenants must ensure that all haulage ways allow free access for car users. Vehicular access to the sites is a privilege, not a right, and parking can be restricted if abused. Motor vehicles may not be parked overnight or deposited on the site, nor maintained nor repaired there except in an emergency. Structures (sheds, greenhouses, polytunnels, compost heaps and fences) Greenhouses, sheds and polytunnels are permitted but their erection must be approved by the Council prior to installation. Concrete bases must never be used for the former. Any structure on the plot must be temporary and maintained in safe order with a neat external appearance and condition. If the Council is not satisfied with the state of the structure the tenant must either repair it to the Council’s satisfaction or remove the structure within one month of instruction to do so. If the structure is not removed or repaired, the Council may remove it and charge the tenant the full cost of removal and disposal. No structure erected on the allotment shall be made from hazardous materials (e.g. asbestos or corrugated sheeting with exposed sharp edges) and its colour shall be in keeping with the natural environment. All structures must be adequately secured to the ground. All structures (including compost heaps) must be kept within the boundary of the plot and must not be constructed over underground utilities (e.g. water supply pipes). Ask an authorised officer if in doubt of their location. The Council will not be held responsible for loss by accident, fire, theft or damage from the allotment site.
