The Therapeutic Process Sample Clauses

The Therapeutic Process. When beginning treatment at The Parent-Child Interaction Center & Canopy Counseling, LLC (P-CIC), you can expect to be involved in your treatment planning and goal setting. During an initial session, you will discuss with the therapist your goals and the ways in which you will know when things have improved. A decision will be made about which type of therapeutic modality best will suit you and your needs. There is an expectation that clients will benefit from therapy, but there are no guarantees. A major benefit of participating in therapy includes the resolution of the specific concerns brought initially to therapy. In addition, you may experience better ability to handle or cope with marital, family, and other interpersonal relationships. Another possible benefit may be a greater understanding of family and personal goals and values; that may lead to greater maturity and happiness as an individual and increased relational harmony.

The Therapeutic Process. The majority of our work takes place in the context of our relationship, and that relationship or any other aspect of therapy will sometimes elicit very strong feelings. It is natural and expected that feelings such as these will arise during the course of therapy, and coming to understand such feelings is an important part of the work. My belief and experience is that the full experience of emotions within the safety of a reparative relationship facilitates deep healing. Because most healing takes place in the context of new emotional experiences lived in the context of a caring relationship, much of our work will focus on what is happening here-and-now in the therapy room. We will also focus our attention on what is happening moment-to-moment in our therapeutic relationship. This present-centered emotional work emerges out of, relates to, and radiates into exploration and healing of current problems and historic life experiences. We also deeply believe in the power of repair in relationship. If you ever feel upset with us, or that we have let you down in some way, we truly invite you to tell us explicitly about your upset feelings toward me. We work hard to understand and repair disruptions between us, if/when they happen. Therapy is hopeful work, even though not all of the therapy may meet your expectations, and your symptoms may become more pronounced at different points during the course of therapy. Much of the work can ultimately help with shifting your inner perspective in a healthy way, which assists in dealing with painful feelings, making sense of difficult memories, or resolving problems in relating to others.
The Therapeutic Process. A major benefit that may be gained from participating in therapy includes a better ability to handle or cope with marital, family, and other interpersonal relationships. Another possible benefit may be a greater understanding of family and personal goals and values; that may lead to a greater maturity and happiness as an individual and increased relational harmony. Other benefits relate to the probable outcomes resulting from resolving specific concerns brought to therapy. Honesty, openness, active participation and willingness to change are required for the services to be effective. Completion of homework assignments and other tasks as discussed and agreed on in session are an important part of treatment and you need to comply with them for services to be effective. This also applies to additional referrals made as deemed necessary (i.e. individual therapy, psychiatric evaluation, substance abuse treatment, medical referral.) In working to achieve these potential benefits; however, therapy will require that firm efforts be made to change and may involve an experience of significant discomfort. Therapeutically resolving unpleasant events and relationship patterns can arouse intense feelings. Seeking to resolve problems can similarly lead to discomfort as well as relationship changes that may not be originally intended.
The Therapeutic Process. You have taken a very positive step by deciding to seek therapy. The first 2 sessions typically involve a comprehensive evaluation of your needs. At that point, I will be able to offer initial impressions, discuss treatment goals and create an initial treatment plan. The outcome of your treatment depends largely on your willingness to engage in this process, which may, at times, result in considerable discomfort. Remembering unpleasant events and becoming aware of feelings attached to those events can bring on strong feelings of anger, depression, anxiety, etc. There are no miracle cures.
