Termination of Scholarship. The University will terminate a scholarship when progress or performance is deemed to be unsatisfactory. Scholars should therefore inform their supervisors and the Director of Doctoral Studies of any problems or difficulties at the earliest opportunity. Similarly, supervisors should assist in identifying problems so that a scholar’s progress is not impeded. If a scholarship is terminated prematurely for any reason, a scholar must repay to the University any monies overpaid from the date of the termination of the scholarship. If a scholar is permitted to reduce the period of full-time or part-time registration and the scholar’s period of full-time or part-time registration finishes before the scholarship is due to finish, the scholarship will be terminated on the date of the completion of the full-time or part-time registration. If a scholar submits a thesis before the end of the scholarship, the scholarship will be terminated on the date of submission and any monies that arise as a result of overpayment will be repayable. However, it is reasonable, with the agreement of the supervisor in consultation with the scholar that up to four weeks notice may be allowed to complete domestic arrangements together with up to two weeks leave. This period should not extend beyond the next date for the payment of the maintenance. If a scholar takes up full-time employment whilst in receipt of a scholarship, the scholarship will be terminated as of the first day of employment.
