TEACHING HOURS AND TEACHING LOAD. A. 1. All teachers may be assigned appropriate starting and dismissal times, provided that their total work day will be no longer than seven (7) consecutive hours, including the duty-free lunch period guaranteed to them under Section C of this Article, and no teacher will be required to report for duty earlier than 7:30 a.m. nor remain on duty later than 4:00p.m. The length of the assigned work day will be substantially equivalent for all teachers. The length of the day may be altered due to emergencies.

1. The beginning and ending times for the teacher shall not be earlier or later than: Elementary 8:05 A.M. - 3:40 P.M.
2. The normal in-school time of the teacher shall not be increased as a result of such different schedule of hours.
C. In the secondary schools and for elementary literacy and math coaches, the Administration may fix a schedule of hours beyond the above limits to accommodate an extended school. The normal in-school time of the teacher shall be continuous and shall not be increased as a result of such different schedule of hours. The individual teaching assignments within the departments affected by the above variation in hours shall be made by the Administration.
D. All elementary teachers shall be entitled to an uninterrupted lunch period of not less than 35 minutes, and all secondary teachers shall be entitled to an uninterrupted lunch period of not less than 30 minutes. Lunch periods shall be duty free. In the event that the elementary lunch period is reduced from 40 to 35 minutes then the in-school time for teachers (Section A) shall be reduced by the same amount.
E. The teaching load in the secondary schools (6-12) shall consist of a weekly ratio of 25 teaching periods to 5 periods of preparation for traditional semesters or 20 teaching periods to 5 periods of preparation for trimester. TEACHING HOURS AND TEACHING LOAD. Section 1 Work Day For the applicable agreement period, the normal work day will be seven and one-quarter (7 ¼) hours including arrival time fifteen (15) minutes before and departure time (15) minutes after the students’ school day. The normal work day will include uninterrupted prep time. The Building Principal, as authorized by the Superintendent, upon request of a teacher or group of teachers, may waive the requirement to remain fifteen (15) minutes after the school day for a specific day or days. TEACHING HOURS AND TEACHING LOAD. 9.1 Teachers shall be required to work on the days specified in the official school calendar and according to the schedule of opening and closing schools as determined by the Board. Mandatory professional development days shall not be scheduled on Saturdays or Sundays. Except for special orientation meetings for new teachers, teachers who are required to work extra days before or after the dates specified in the official calendar shall receive additional compensation at their appropriate daily rate.

Statement of need may be initiated by teachers as well as the Administration. By June 1st of each year a list of committees will be posted on the central office bulletin board, and teachers will be given a one week period to volunteer before any assignments are made.
E. Elementary conferences schedule shall be three (3) days and one (1) evening for a total of four (4) half days for each conference period. The junior high school conference schedule shall be two (2) days and one (1) evening for a total of three (3) half days for each conference period. Elementary and Junior High conference to be scheduled on the same evening and evening conferences are not to exceed a total of two (2) hours. Junior High conferences will be scheduled by the administration and elementary conferences to be scheduled by the individual teachers.
F. All teachers will be permitted to leave at the end of their school day on any day when evening conferences are to be held, if no afternoon conferences are scheduled for said teacher.

If the High Schools operate on a block schedule, the following provi- sions shall apply: • Except where a teacher has agreed in advance, no High School teacher shall teach more than four (4) classes in one day. • The teaching load over a four-day rotation shall not exceed fifteen (15) instructional blocks, except that Science teachers shall not exceed twelve (12) instructional blocks over a four-day rotation, exclusive of lab blocks. • On any day when the schedule reverts to a non-block format, no High School teacher shall teach more than five (5) classes on such day. TEACHING HOURS AND TEACHING LOAD. 5.1 The workday for all teachers shall be no more than seven and one-half (7½) hours.
(a) On non-early release days, days other than Fridays and days preceding a holiday or vacation, teachers at the Furnace Brook Middle School and the High School will report fifteen (15) minutes before student starting times and will remain ten (10) minutes after student dismissal times.
(b) On non-early release days, days other than Fridays and days preceding a holiday or vacation, elementary teachers will report ten (10) minutes before student starting times and will remain ten (10) minutes after student dismissal times.
(c) At each elementary school including kindergarten there shall be a fifteen (15) minute recess in the morning and a fifteen (15) minute recess in the afternoon except as provided as follows: For grades one through five one thirty (30) minute recess, or one ten (10) minute recess and one twenty (20) minute recess may be substituted for the two (2) fifteen (15) minute recesses, at the discretion of the Superintendent or his designee after consultation with appropriate faculty and Association representatives. Other alternative scheduling of the total thirty (30) minute recess time per day may be agreed upon by the parties to the Master Agreement. On early dismissal days one fifteen (15) minute recess shall be available if teachers wish to have their students participate in recess. In such event, supervision of recess shall be consistent with supervision of recess on other days.
(d) On days when weather is sufficiently inclement to consider closing of school, serious consideration will be given to delayed opening of school before canceling classes for the day. It is understood that the decision to cancel or delay the opening of school due to inclement weather shall not be subject to the grievance and arbitration provisions of this Agreement.
(e) The normal starting and dismissal times for students at Marshfield High School shall be 7:15 A.M. and 1:47 P.M. The normal starting and dismissal times for students at Furnace Brook Middle School shall be 7:40 A.M. and 2:20 P.M. The normal starting and dismissal times for students at the "early" elementary schools shall be 8:20 A.M. and 3:00 P.M. The normal starting and dismissal times for students at the "late" elementary schools shall be 8:50 A.M. and 3:30 P.M.
