To be certified, products must be tested by independent labs for compliance with the ANSI/BIFMA X7.1 and either ANSI/BIFMA e.3 or CDPH/EHLB Standard Method V1-2 for VOC emissions of concerns. In partnership with our suppliers, we are increasing the number of energy-efficient products in our rental fleet through Tier 4 Compliant purchases of applicant equipment, LED-light equipped and solar- powered, battery-powered, electric-powered, and hybrid equipment, and transitioning our fleet of rental and internal-use half-ton pick-up trucks to be equipped with four-cylinder engines. In addition, Herc’s green initiatives include: • Handle, store, and dispose of substances that are defined as hazardous material in compliance with local, state, and federal regulation; • Reduce, reuse, and recycle our waste products as much as possible; • Minimize water consumption and ensure safe water treatment within our branches by incorporating innovative design of wastewater treatment systems; • Minimize energy consumption by employing energy reducing initiatives; • Conduct regular training for staff working in and around petroleum storage tanks to inform on hazardous materials stored onsite, as well as regular inspections of storage tanks, dispensers, and critical safety devices; • When required by local, state, and federal regulations, develop, and maintain appropriate emergency and spill response programs; • Whenever possible, purchase products and services that do the least damage to the environment and communicating this commitment to our vendors; • Monitor the environmental impact of our business practices and review our progress on a continual basis; and • Promote environmental stewardship and best management practices to our customers that utilize rental equipment

We try to recycle all fluids to be used in other items in the factory if possible so the minimal amount have to be disposed of. Also we have reduce fluid capacities on multiple pieces of our equipment for better efficiency and much less waste during routine maintenance.

Together with our sustainability consultant, Brightworks, we are analyzing our company from every level to understand our impact and to create a roadmap for improvement. Our roots are in preowned and refurbished furniture, and we are establishing measurable targets for product circularity. One way we are having an immediate impact is by providing no and low- carbon solutions through our sister companies Bettersource and Greenersource. Our clients receive proceeds from liquidation, earnings from recycled materials and tax deductions from donations benefiting nonprofits around the country.
