Common use of Sustainability Clause in Contracts

Sustainability. The Provider should take steps to ensure sustainability of travel. The Authority is committed to adopting travel behaviours that support the Government‟s sustainability objectives. The policy is to strike an appropriate balance between the costs and the benefits, taking into account:  Cost  Convenience  Carbon emissions  Care of staff Travel should only be undertaken when there is no other practical business alternative and, where travel is necessary, sustainability and environmental issues are to be taken into account when planning meetings and journeys. Cost Care MUST be exercised to ensure that the mode of travel selected is the most cost effective option. Travel may be arranged on behalf of the Provider by the Contracting Body. Or, the Contracting Body may reasonably require the Provider to use a certain mode of transport or a certain supplier. This will be decided by the Contracting Body when the Services are required. Air No air travel expenses can be claimed unless this is required by the Contracting Body and is within the UK. No first class air travel is permitted. Rail No rail travel expenses can be claimed unless this is required by the Contracting Body and is within the UK. When travelling by rail, travel will be reimbursed at the standard class rate. Car When travelling by car where the car is provided by the Contractor or is privately owned by the Contractor‟s staff, the following mileage allowances shall be applicable: Types Per mile Private cars and vans ‐ no public transport rate* £0.45 Private cars and vans ‐ public transport rate* £0.25 Private motor cycles £0.24 Passenger supplement £0.05 Bicycle £0.20
