Sport partnership M r Ull Xxxxx, the Chair of Sportgarten in Bremen, Germany, visi- xxx UKZN in February to explore the possibility of establishing a sport partnership. Sportgarten is a youth affairs and sport development organisation. Xx Xxxxx was a member of the committee that visited South Africa to establish the partnership between the cities of Bremen and Durban in 2003. Xx Xxxxx viewed sport facilities and met with people involved in sport at the University and Durban as a whole. He met the Chair of Durban Stars, Mr Xxxxxxxx Xxxx, SRC Central President Xxx Xxxxxx and Xx Xxxxx Xxxxx of UKZN’s Sport Science Depart- ment. Durban Stars is UKZN’s official soccer team, which plays in the Mvela League. Xx Xxxxx was impressed by the sporting facilities offered at UKZN, which he described as “world class”. He was also im- pressed with the cultural mix in sport. He praised South Africa for implementing sport development programmes so quickly, observing that this “usually takes much longer in Germany”.
