Specialized Assignments. The following specialized assignments will be made at the discretion of the Chief Probation Officer or her/his designee and are exempt from the seniority shift selection process set forth herein:
Specialized Assignments. JCO's will be assigned to specialized assignments at the discretion of the Probation Department (see No. 3 above). JCO's will be allowed to submit a request for a specialized assignment prior to the commencement of the annual work shift sign-up process. All JCO's that submit a request for a specialized assignment will be interviewed.
Specialized Assignments. Currently there are no specialized assignments for SJCO’s. Directed reassignments can be made pursuant to Personnel Rule 11022.3 and Probation Department Administrative Manual, Section 4.240, under the following circumstances:
Specialized Assignments. Whenever it is determined that a reduction of employees in specialized assignments (including TADs) may occur because of lack of work or funds, the following order of reduction will apply: Employees with less than three (3) years in the unit, will be removed based upon Department seniority as set out in Article 19 – Seniority. If further reductions are necessary after all employees with less than three (3) years in the unit have been removed, employees with three (3) or more years in the unit will be removed based upon Department seniority as set out in Article 19 – Seniority. The name of the employee who has been removed from a specialized assignment under this provision shall be placed on a re-assignment list which takes precedence over the existing transfer list. When moving employees back into the specialized assignment from this list, employees will be called back to the assignments in inverse order during the life of the existing transfer list. If no active list exists, or if an active list expires, then employees removed under this provision will be required to test for the position. Annotation: Any Correction Officers who have been removed from a TAD position shall be entitled to be recalled completing the remaining time in the assignment.

Specialized Assignments. A specialized assignment is any assignment that permanently removes the officer from a patrol assignment as defined in section 23.1 of this Article. For purposes of this Article, permanent means at least one (1) year. The Chief shall post the assignment opening for ten (10) calendar days and shall allow any interested member of the same rank in which the vacancy occurs to apply within the posting period. The Chief may provide notice on the posting of any specialized training and/or technical skills which will be required for the assignment once the assignment is filled. Skill, ability, experience, work record and seniority shall be part of the criteria considered for selection of an applicant to fill the assignment. An applicant must have a minimum of three (3) years of continuous service after completion of his or her FTO period or three (3) years in a sworn law enforcement or comparable professional experience related to the specialized assignment in order to receive consideration. Specialized assignments may be created or abolished by the Department, after the Lodge is notified in writing and is afforded an opportunity to consult with the Department.
