Special Duty Scheduling. Special duty assignments must be approved by the Director of Public Safety or designee. A special duty assignment will first be offered to the most senior non- supervisory bargaining unit member. That bargaining unit member can either choose to work the assignment or to pass. In either case the affected member will be charged for purposes of tallying total special duty hours worked and will go to the bottom of the list. Subsequent special duty assignments will be offered to bargaining unit members via reverse seniority until the least senior member has been given an opportunity to work or pass on the job. Special duty assignments will then be offered to non-bargaining unit members by seniority (Corporals, Sergeants and then Lieutenants) until each one has been given an opportunity to work or pass. In the event a supervisor is required for a particular special duty assignment due to the number of officers required, selection of the supervisor would not count against their rotation in the above selection process. If the special duty assignment cannot be filled after going through the above process the special duty assignment shall be turned over to the affected jurisdiction, Special Duty Office.
