Social aspects. 3.1.1.1 Enhancing cultural vibrancy and leisure opportunities The activities nodes and key attraction points in the waterfront promenade across Sites 6, 7 and 8 provide opportunities for different leisure activities. The main portion of the waterfront promenade occupies Site 7, and is planned as a large open space with various outdoor recreational activities characterized by 3 themed walking zones to enhance leisure opportunities. The “Urban Park” concept adopted from Stage 2 Public Engagement encourages more vibrant and active uses. Small-scale food and beverages kiosks have been planned to accommodate the needs of public, and pedestrian connections have been improved to enhance the connection to the waterfront promenade from the CBD and other areas of the NCH. Provision of arts and cultural facilities previously proposed in Site 5 which is in close proximity to existing arts and cultural developments, including HKCEC, HKAPA, and HKAC have been transformed to office and hotel use in recognition of the increasing prominence of Wan Chai North as an extension of the Central Business District (CBD) and to avoid duplicating the proposed arts and cultural facilities in West Kowloon. It is anticipated that with improved pedestrian access which embraces the proposed Sculpture Garden, the surrounding existing arts and cultural developments can be complimented by providing a comparably informal outdoor alternative to the mainly existing arts spaces.
