Both filtration and ventilation significantly impact a building’s IAQ, and by increasing can help mitigate the transmission of COVID‐19. Since one of the modalities for viral transmission of COVID‐19 is through inhalation of aerosol particles, the CDC and ASHRAE both recommend that school’s increase their ventilation rates. Increasing a building’s ventilation is accomplished by increasing the amount of outside air into the school, and this primarily accomplished by the school’s existing HVAC system. Current Building Codes and ASHRAE standards require Designers (architects/engineers) to design buildings that comply with these parameters. The ability to

Hourly charges, and the time and material charges for specially scheduled school personnel, shall be assessed to the City for the usage of classrooms, gymnasiums and cafeteria facilities within the School Buildings. These hourly charges shall incorporate expenses incurred by the East Grand Rapids Public Schools in the operation, maintenance and repair of these specified School Building facilities, and shall not incorporate fixed expenses incurred, otherwise, by the East Grand Rapids Public Schools.

The DCCFA may use school buildings before or after duty hours for meetings, with the prior approval of the principal of the school, provided that this shall not interfere with or interrupt school or Community Education operations. Expenses incident to the meeting shall be borne by the DCCFA whenever the use of such facilities results in an additional cost to ISD 196.
