School Age Children. An employee shall be granted leave without pay for the care and nurturing of the employee's pre- school age children in accordance with the following conditions: an employee shall notify the Council in writing four (4) weeks in advance of the commencement date of such leave; leave granted under this sub-clause shall be for a minimum period of six (6) months: the total leave granted under this sub- clause shall not exceed (5) years during an employee's total period of employment in the Public Service; such leave shall be deducted for the calculation of "continuous employment" for the purposes of calculating severance pay and vacation leave; time spent on such leave shall not be counted for pay increment purposes.   • Children/Grandchildren An employee may purchase life insurance in the amount of ten thousand dollars ($10,000) as a package for all eligible children/grandchildren (as defined in Section 2A2 and 2A3 of this Article). For a new employee, child/grandchild coverage requires evidence of insurability if application is made after the initial effective date of coverage as defined in this Article, Section 5C. An employee who becomes eligible for insurance may purchase child/grandchild coverage without evidence of insurability if application is made within thirty (30) days of the initial effective date as defined in this Article. Child/grandchild coverage commences fourteen (14) calendar days after birth.
