Employer’s objectives The employer’s objectives are to deliver public infrastructure using labour intensive methods. Labour-intensive works Labour-intensive works comprise the activities described in SANS 1921-5, Earthworks activities which are to be performed by hand, and its associated specification data . Such works shall be constructed using local workers who are temporarily employed in terms of this Scope of Work. Labour Intensive Competencies of Supervisory and Management Staff Contractors having a CIDB contractor grading designation of 5GB/CE and higher shall engage, as far as is feasible, supervisory and management staff in labour intensive works who have relevant Labour Intensive Construction Qualifications or have relevant experience in Labour Intensive Construction. The managing principal of the contractor, namely, a sole proprietor, the senior partner, the managing director or managing member of a close corporation, as relevant, having a contractor grading designation of 1GB/CE, 2GB/CE, 3GB/CE and 4GB/CE shall have, as far as is feasible, personally completed a relevant skills programme in Labour Intensive Construction or have relevant experience in Labour Intensive Construction. All other site supervisory staff in the employ of such contractors must, as far as is feasible, have completed a relevant skills programme in Labour Intensive Construction or have relevant experience in Labour Intensive Construction. The Employer may set other conditions at their discretion which must be complied to when engaging Contractors who do not comply with is provision. 1 Employment of Unskilled and Semi-Skilled Workers in Labour-Intensive Works
