Sabbatical Leave. The Board may grant a sabbatical leave of absence to a teacher performing contractual continued service, for a period of at least four (4) school months but not in excess of one (1) school term, for resident study, research, travel or other purposes designated to improve the school system. The grant of a sabbatical leave by the Board shall constitute a finding that the leave is deemed to benefit the school system by improving the quality and level of experience of the teaching force. This leave may be granted after completion of at least six (6) years of satisfactory service as a full-time teacher, and may again be granted after completion of a subsequent period of six (6) years of such service. During absence pursuant to such leave, such teacher shall receive the same basic salary as if in actual service, except that there shall be deducted there from an amount equivalent to the amount payable for substitute service. However, such salary after deduction for substitute service shall in no case be less than the minimum provided by the School Code or one-half (1/2) of the basic salary, whichever is greater. The person on leave shall not engage in any activity for which salary or compensation is paid unless the activity is directly related to the purpose for which the leave is granted and is approved by the Board. A sabbatical leave may be granted to enable the applicant, if otherwise eligible, to accept scholarships for study or research. Unless justified by illness or incapacity, failure of any person granted a leave under this section to devote the entire period to the purposes for which the leave was granted shall constitute a cause for removal from teaching service. Upon expiration of a leave granted pursuant to this section, and upon presentation of evidence satisfactory to the Board showing compliance with the conditions of the leave, the teacher shall be returned to a position equivalent to that formerly occupied. A leave granted an applicant for a period Sabbatical Leave, shall have a minimum of one seven (17) school year or less shall bar consecutive years of service with the district immediately preceding the application for a further sabbatical leave until completion of six (6) years' additional satisfactory service, except that two (2) leaves which total no more than the equivalent of one (1) school year shall bar a further sabbatical leave only until the completion of six (6) years' additional satisfactory service following the completion of the first such leave. Sabbatical Leave. The Sabbatical fellowships are granted at the sole discretion of the Board may grant a sabbatical leave of absence to a teacher performing contractual continued service, for a period of at least four (4) school months but not in excess of no more than one (1) employee per year, and are designed to encourage the improvement of instruction, supervision, and administration and to provide enrichment of the educational program in the Henniker School system. Teachers who have demonstrated a commitment to the school termmay apply for a fellowship upon completion of eight (8) years’ service in Henniker. Sabbatical Leave. Sabbatical leave for approved study, research or travel, considered to be in the interests of the school system, may be granted members of the professional staff by the Superintendent after the staff member has served at least seven (7) consecutive years in the Carlisle Public Schools. All full-time FACE members covered by this Agreement with six (6) years continuous service with the College are eligible for sabbatical leave for educational study, research and/or travel. Sabbatical Leave. For the purpose of this section, Sabbatical Leave is defined as a leave free from all teaching and administrative duties to gain educational and life experience. The Board director may grant Sabbatical Leave to a sabbatical leave teacher, and if granted, the following shall apply: Leave of absence for any period of time up to a maximum of one (1) full academic school year may be granted for the purpose of improving the qualifications of a teacher. Sabbatical Leave. ‌ Sabbatical leave for approved study, research or travel, considered to be in the interests of the school system, may be granted members of the professional staff by the Superintendent after the staff member has served at least seven (7) consecutive years in the Carlisle Public Schools. The leave shall be conditional upon a plan for resident study, research, travel, research or other activities proposed by the applicant, applicant and deemed by the Board to benefit the school system, which plan shall be approved by the Board and not thereafter modified without the approval of the Board. Before a leave is granted pursuant to this sectiongranted, the applicant shall agree in writing that if, if at the expiration of such leave, he leave he/she does not return to and perform contractual continued service in the District for at a least one (1) school year after his his/her return, all sums of money received from the Board during his his/her sabbatical leave will be refunded returned to the Board Board, unless such return and performance is prevented by illness or incapacity. Upon expiration of a leave granted pursuant to this section, section and upon presentation of evidence satisfactory to the Board showing compliance with the conditions of the leave, the teacher shall be returned to a position equivalent to that formerly occupied. The contractual continued service status of the person on sabbatical leave shall not be affected. Absence during a leave granted pursuant to this section shall not be construed as a discontinuance of service for any purpose, including progression on the salary schedule, if one is in effect in the District. The Board shall pay the contribution to the Teachers' Retirement System required of the person on leave leave, computed on the annual full-full‐ time salary rate under which the member last received earnings immediately prior to the leave leave, or a proportionate part of such rate for a partial year of sabbatical leave credit. The Board shall impose the limitation of not more than one (1) member of the faculty, being granted sabbatical leave at any given time. Any teacher desiring to make application for a sabbatical leave must notify the Board in writing of his/her intent to apply for a sabbatical leave no later than February I of the preceding school year in which the sabbatical leave is requested The application must state how long the applicant will be on leave and how this leave will improve the applicants quality and level of teaching.

Sabbatical Leave. The Sabbatical leaves shall be granted for up to one (1) year to those employees who have served the District a minimum of five (5) years provided that, in cases of double levy election loss and/or funding shortage or where adequate substitute is not available, such leave shall be subject to Board may grant approval. An employee who has had a sabbatical leave can become eligible for another sabbatical leave after serving an additional ten (10) years in the District. Any employee desiring sabbatical leave must submit a written request to the Superintendent before April 1 of absence the school year prior to the year for which sabbatical leave is desired. The request shall specify the reasons for which leave is requested, provide an outline of the activities in which he/she will be engaged and the length of leave. The employee will give a teacher performing contractual continued service, follow up report in the spring of their sabbatical year. Arrangements will be made through the Executive Director of Teaching and Learning. An employee on sabbatical leave shall receive fifty percent (50%) salary but will receive all other employee benefits he/she would have received if he/she had remained on active duty exclusive of extra-curricular assignments. Employees granted sabbatical leaves shall agree to return to regular service in the District upon the expiration of their leaves for a period of at least four two (42) years. Upon completion of two years of employment with the District following the sabbatical year, the recipient shall be considered free of any obligation to the District in connection with the receipt of the sabbatical stipend. If an employee does not return to regular service with the District at the expiration of the leave, exclusive of involuntary layoff or termination, all salary paid during the leave shall become due and payable to the District by September 1 of the year the employee does not return to the District. If the employee fails to fulfill or is unable to fulfill the terms/purpose of the sabbatical leave due to exigent circumstances, he/she shall notify the District as soon as reasonably possible. The parties shall meet and determine an appropriate resolution that may include full or partial repayment of the sabbatical salary. Should a sabbatical recipient be obligated to reimburse the District under the conditions of the above paragraph and be unable to repay the full amount on the date due, he/she may elect to repay the amount over a period of up to five (5) years with interest on the unpaid balance. Terms and conditions of repayment will be individually arranged with the recipient and District administration with the stipulation that interest shall not exceed the current bank interest rate per annum. If an employee should die or become permanently disabled while on sabbatical leave, no repayment of salary paid while on leave shall be required. In case the employee is granted a sabbatical and then receives a scholarship, fellowship, assistantship or other such grant for the same school months but year, the total compensation from the two sources shall not in excess exceed the salary he/she would receive if under contract with the Mukilteo School District for the negotiated number of employee days.
