Rest Breaks and Meal Periods. 1. Employees will be allowed two (2) fifteen (15) minutes paid rest periods each day; one (1) period before and one (1) period after the lunch break. The rest periods will be scheduled at the middle of each one-half (1/2) shift or as close thereto as is feasible.

Rest Breaks and Meal Periods for those employees assigned to work eight (8) or ten (10) hour shifts, they shall be allowed two fifteen minute breaks and one half hour meal period. Employees shall be subject to call to respond to non-scheduled work duties which arise during such rest breaks and meal periods and which require immediate attention. Employees assigned to work twelve (12) hour rotating shifts shall be allowed two fifteen minute rest breaks and two forty minute meal periods per shift, but said employees are subject to call to respond to non-scheduled work duties arising during the breaks and meal periods.

If you should work more than 10 hours in a day, you will be entitled to a second meal break, in accordance with California law. Nurses agree to 9 communicate to the Charge Nurse, Clinical Coordinator or House 10 Supervisor in a timely manner if they anticipate not being able to take 11 a meal period. Nurses may combine two (2) consecutive rest breaks, 12 if staffing permits, on ten (10) or twelve (12) hour shifts (this is not 13 considered a meal period and may not replace the designated meal 14 period). If no meal period is provided by the Medical Center the nurse 15 will complete the appropriate payroll notification process and will be 16 paid for the missed meal period.
