The DSTA is a teacher’s aide but is here to assist students and their (defence) families as they relocate to a new school. Such help includes:  organise activities which welcome and farewell ADF families and help them settle into the new school community.  assist the school to understand the needs of ADF families and their children  assist students and parents if ADF members are deployed  provide information on the Defence Community Organisation (DCO) and its services Why do we have DSTAs in schools? Sometimes children have difficulties making new friends, understanding and adjusting to routines and different ways in the new school.
