In the event an employee is unable to notify his/her Department Head or designee prior to the start of their shift, a 15-minute grace period will be enacted. If an employee is absent for reasons that entitle him to sick leave, he/she shall make an immediate report to the commanding officer and, if unable to contact the commanding officer, shall report to the desk officer in person or by telephone. If unable to report, a relative or other responsible person shall notify the commanding officer or desk officer of all pertinent facts, either in person or by telephone. These reporting requirements may be modified or changed from time-to-time by an order or directive of the Chief of Police. The latest order or directive of the Chief of Police shall be the controlling procedure.
